PSYCHOLOGICZNE I SPOŁECZNE PREDYKTORY STRESU WŚRÓD POLSKICH EMIGRANTÓW

Wstąpienie Polski do Unii Europejskiej zapewniło polskim obywatelom większe możliwości emigracji zarobkowej do krajów członkowskich. Rynki pracy na Wyspach Brytyjskich stały się szczególnie atrakcyjnymi kierunkami dla polskich emigrantów. Choć praca za granicą umożliwiła wielu polskim rodzinom poprawę ich sytuacji ekonomicznej, jednocześnie stała się źródłem zwiększonego stresu. Celem tego badania było zidentyfikowanie psychologicznych i społecznych czynników determinujących podwyższony poziom stresu wśród polskich imigrantów, przy zastosowaniu adaptacji Transakcyjnego Modelu Stresu do analizy sposobów radzenia sobie emigrantów z wymaganiami emigracji.
Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wyniki dwuetapowego badania przeprowadzonego wśród 362 polskich emigrantów mieszkających w Irlandii, Szkocji i Anglii (235 uczestników w etapie pierwszym i 127 w etapie drugim). Uczestnicy wypełnili baterię kwestionariuszy, w tym: Skalę wymogów emigracji, Skalę uogólnionej własnej skuteczności, Inwentarz Mini-COPE oraz Bilans moich stresorów. Badanie odpowiadało na następujące pytania: (1) Czy polscy emigranci w różnych krajach różnią się strategiami radzenia sobie i poziomem doświadczanego stresu? (2) Jakie czynniki przewidują poziom doświadczanego stresu?
Wyniki wskazały na znaczące różnice międzygrupowe w zakresie doświadczanego stresu związanego z adaptacją na emigracji oraz potwierdziły rolę poczucia własnej skuteczności w tym procesie. Analiza regresji dostarczyła modeli determinantów stresu wśród imigrantów. Biorąc pod uwagę homogeniczną strukturę grupy badawczej, można stwierdzić, że kontekst środowiskowy jest głównym czynnikiem znacząco determinującym proces radzenia sobie ze stresem. Autorzy sugerują, że większe różnice kulturowe między krajem pochodzenia a krajem docelowym prowadzą do większych trudności adaptacyjnych, skutkujących wyższym natężeniem doświadczanego stresu. Wyniki wskazują, że różnice w poziomach stresu wynikają z wielkości luki kulturowej między krajem pochodzenia imigrantów a krajami docelowymi.
